I'll tell you how this myth started that women earn less, has nothing to do with companies mistreating woman or some system of patriarchal society. What they did was take a sample group of men and woman added up all the men's money then all the woman's did this a few times and found on average that men had 30% more money and assets. Did they look at things like spending habits life style choices? No, they just did that, its not taken off and every man and his dog believes woman are purposely paid less despite in every western country there are laws that prevent that women get paid less.

Statisticly men are more likely to work overtime by around 5-8 hours a week compared to a woman. Thats often the reason why a male co-worker gets in the end of the month a higher paycheck compared to a woman. But depending on company and country it is possible that the payment per hour is higher or lower for a woman since its possible that overtime gets paid less or more.
